Providing for a good life: healthy and safe food

At the heart of Leijona Catering’s social responsibility is supporting healthy eating habits. Sufficient intake of energy and regular meals are material to our biggest customer groups, the military conscripts and prisoners, in terms of their stamina and wellbeing.

When serving the daily meals at the garrisons we encounter thousands of youth on a daily basis. We want to help them make good choices for both the environment and healthy living. Habits acquired during the service period carry on to the future whether it is healthy eating or reducing food waste.

The basics for menu and meal planning for garrison canteens come from the Finnish national nutritional recommendations. Additionally, we pay special attention to the protein, fiber, and energy content of the meals. We build our service lines so that the customer has an easy task of picking a meal consisting of a lot of vegetables and adhering to health recommendations. We encompass special diets very broadly.

We publish the detailed ingredients, as well as the nutrition and energy information of all our dishes, online on our menus. We share information about healthy eating habits already at the very beginning of the military service.

Adding more vegetables to our menus is one of our improtant goals for the benefit of both the environment and our customers’ health.

Heart-friendly food

Together with the Finnish Military and the national Finnish Heart Health Organization Sydänliitto we have brought heart-friendly recipes marked with a Heart Symbol to all Finnish garrisons. About 80 percent of the recipes Leijona Catering uses fulfill their criteria for maintaining heart health.

Adding vegetables and vegetarian dishes to our menus has been one of our important goals for the benefit of both the environment and the health of our customers.
