Catering and prison canteen
In closed prisons, the catering is arranged by Leijona Catering. Food is served in the dining room of the prison, in the dining areas of the accommodation wards or in the cells. Closed prisons have canteens where the prisoners can buy goods, such as tobacco, hygiene products and foodstuffs, for their personal use. In open prisons, the prisoners usually use the nearby grocery shops.
Catering
Four meals are served on weekdays: breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snack. On weekends and public holidays, breakfast, a combined lunch or dinner and evening snack are served.
In your free time, you can prepare food in the kitchen of your accommodation ward. You can buy the ingredients from the prison canteen. In many prisons, the prisoners prepare their breakfast and evening snacks independently or in small groups.
In open prisons, the arrangement of catering varies depending on the prison. The meals may be served in the common dining room or in the accommodation facilities. In some open prisons, you have to buy your own foodstuffs yourself, whereas in others, some or all meals are arranged by the prison and Leijona Catering.
Prison canteen
Leijona Catering is responsible for the prison canteens. In the prison canteens, the range of products is significantly smaller than in regular grocery shops.

In open prisons, the prisoners usually use the nearby grocery shops. You pay you purchases with the payment card in your possession. The shopping practices vary between prisons.
