Domestic food  - Leijona Catering Skip to content

A high ratio of domestic food is part of the supply and delivery security promise of Leijona Catering. At the same time, we must ensure that any possible availability challenges of food domestically do not have an impact on the supply security of our customers. Therefore, we must also maintain sourcing channels for imported food.

Domestic origin plays a big role in the responsible sourcing of Leijona Catering. We cannot, however, aim at a solely domestic supply chain because for us preparedness means being prepared for any circumstances: for example, also to a state of emergency where the domestic food chain is, for some reason or other, experiencing disruptions. In the normal conditions we hold the ratio of domestic food as high as possible.

Our milk, raw meat and meat products, potatoes, and fresh bread are usually [“yleensä” – pitäisi lisätä myös suomenkieliselle sivulle!] 100 per cent Finnish. Our persistent efforts to increase the share of food of domestic origin will continue in the years to come.

In 2023, we sourced from over 70 countries of origin of which the typical share of purchases was less than one per cent each. The share of domestic food was 77 per cent.

In 2020 Leijona Catering was awarded with the Key Flag that is a sign of domestic Finnish service provider. The criteria include both the ratio of domestic products and services and all related spent cost and labour within Finland.
